Family and friends mourn death of Phoenix priest, Father Kenneth Walker

MAPLE HILL, Kan. (KSNT) On Thursday the town of Maple Hills in Wabaunsee County put on a vigil for Father Kenneth Walker, who was shot and killed in Phoenix.

Words of prayer echoed throughout the St. John Vianney Chapel as hundreds came to show their respect for Reverend Walker and his family. His parents live in Maple Hill, along with some of his friends, including fellow Priest John Shannon. Shannon worked with Walker during their years in the seminary together. Reverend Walker’s step-sister says it’s disturbing why someone would shoot a man of God.

“If he was actually doing a good job as a priest there are people out there that don’t want the priests to succeed and bring people to the church. I don’t know it’s hard to say what kind of motive would be there.”said Sasha Keys.

Keys says she hopes the rosary will bring some closure to her step-brothers death and help people remember how he lived.
