Arrest yet to be made in Topeka homicide case

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) Topeka Police have issued a correction to a statement made Sunday afternoon that a suspect had been arrested in connection to the shooting Friday afternoon. The Watch Commander confirmed over the phone Sunday afternoon that someone had been arrested in connection to the shooting. They could not provide any details or a name for the suspect.

Capt. Brian Desch released an e-mail Sunday evening at about 6:00 p.m., saying the arrest was related to a narcotics warrant and was made in Independence, Missouri.  Desch says no one has been arrested in connection to the homicide, and the investigation is ongoing.

Topeka Police responded to a call of a shooting at about 2:40 Friday afternoon at 2129 SE Kentucky.

When police arrived, they found a male subject outside of the address with gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment and was pronounced dead at about 3:40 p.m.

Police say a vehicle stopped in front of the home and fired several shots. Neighbors say the victim was a black male, maybe late twenties. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending proper notifications.

Witnesses did see a Silver Dodge Magnum station wagon with tinted windows leaving the scene of the shooting. Police still haven’t determined if the victim was targeted. If anyone has information in regards to a vehicle matching this description they are asked to call 911 and report it to the police.
