Lawrence teen hit while helping wildlife

A Lawrence teen was hospitalized after she was hit by a car while trying to help a turtle.

Mersadie Walker, 17 was struck Thursday when she was trying to help the turtle get off the road.

She was flown to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Walker had serious injuries and was still in the ICU as of Friday evening.

The driver, Elisabeth Mason, 36, was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility for driving while suspended and no proof of insurance.
