On Sunday, at approximately 12:30am, Lawrence Police responded to the report of shots fired at a home near the intersection of Harvard Road and Kasold Drive.  The caller indicated the shots may have come from a home south of the intersection.

Upon arrival, the first responding officer was directed to 1103 Kasold Drive, where a disturbance was occurring.  The officer contacted individuals inside the home, including one armed with a firearm.  During the encounter the officer discharged his firearm, striking the armed individual.  A second officer arrived shortly thereafter.  Medical personnel were summoned immediately and the injured individual was transported from the scene by ambulance.  He was then transferred to an air ambulance nearby and taken to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment.

The Lawrence Police Department has requested the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in investigating this incident.  Both Lawrence Police Officers are on paid administrative leave, as per department policy.  Their names are not being released at this time.  Further updates will be available later this week as the investigation progresses.
