Athletes receive honor at Topeka sports banquet

TOPEKA- The Topeka-Shawnee County Sports Council held its annual awards banquet on Thursday night. The 2014 Hall of Fame inductees were C.J. Hamilton and Ed Delk.

Hamilton is the winningest coach in Kansas H.S. football history with 370 victories and eight state championships at Silver Lake. He’s coached at Silver Lake for 39 seasons and was a dual-sport athlete himself at Washburn University in the early 1970s.

Delk was a 1953 graduate of Highland Park where he earned all-state recognition in football and basketball. He returned to the area as a coach at Wamego, Shawnee Heights and Hayden.

The high school winners include:

Most Outstanding Fall Athletes: Addie Barry (Hayden), Austin Tillman (Topeka High)

Most Outstanding Winter Athletes: Mandy Madden (Topeka High), Tagen Lambotte (Rossville)

Most Outstanding Spring Athletes: Savannah Moore (Washburn Rural), Blake Hunter (Hayden)

Most Inspirational Athletes: Mary Kate Franklin (Hayden), Dailin Kruger (Silver Lake)

Athletes of the Year: Addie Barry (Hayden), Tagen Lambotte (Rossville)
