Symetra Tour previews upcoming event at Firekeeper GC

MAYETTA, Kan. – The Road to the LPGA Tour begins with the Symetra tour, Which will be making its inaugural visit to Firekeeper Golf Course this September.

“I always describe it like baseball,” says Calle Nielson, a three-year Symetra Tour golfer. “Everybody pretty much knows major and minor leagues. We’re Triple A baseball. We are one step belong majors.”

Nielson will be joining more than 144 golfers, representing more than 30 countries, in Kansas this fall.

“That’s one of the great things about traveling and playing in a different state and a different city each week is that hopefully we get to meet a lot of people,” says 10-year Symetra Tour golfer Blair O’Neal.

She golfed professionally before pursuing a career in modeling. O’neal then was chosen to appear on the Golf Channels, ‘Big Break’ series twice.

“I got asked to be on the show again,” said O’Neal. “An all-stars show that was in the Dominican (Republic), and I won that one. It was really a great experience.”

Once the 20-event, competitive season concludes, the top 10 golfers will earn their 2015 LPGA Tour card.

“Once people get to see us hit shots and hit golf balls on the course, I think it kind of clicks that how good these girls are, and how hard they work, and how much of a grind it is,” said O’Neal.

The Symetra Tour makes its third to last stop of the season at Firekeeper Golf Course on September 5-7.

Both O’Neal and Nielson, as well as Topeka-native Courtney Mahon received a sponsor exemption in the Prairie Band Casino and Resort Charity Classic.
