TOPEKA (KSNT) - Dozens of law enforcement officers ended a massive search of a wooded area in southwest Shawnee County just before 5:00 p.m. Thursday three hours after a man was shot and wounded.
“It’s usual to happen in this court yard,” neighbor Robert Huckstep said.
The shooting happened just before 2:00 p.m.at a mobile home park AT 4420 SW 61st Street.. Officers were responding to reports of a shooting, and found a19 year old man with a gunshot wound to the lower left leg inside the home. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“All they asked us is that we look at our trailer to make sure there weren’t any new holes in it,” Huckstep said.
“Witnesses reported the suspect got into a white Lincoln Navigator and left the mobile home park traveling in an unknown direction,” says Shawnee County Sheriff”s Lt. Danny Lotridge.
A short while later the focus turned to a large field surrounded by woods when a witness thought they saw the suspect. Shawnee County Sheriff’s deputies, Kansas Highway Patrolmen and the Topeka Police Department all converged on the scene.
The search intensified when one searcher thought he heard the sound of someone running through the woods, however even with the use of dogs they were unable to find the shooter.
The shooting suspect is identified as 24 year old Antoine Tyrone Marks Sr, a 6’3″ African-American man. He was last seen in a white Lincoln Navigator, which has since been found. Another man and a woman were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. The man was found and is being questioned, the woman is still at large.
