TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka police announced late Friday they had arrested a man, charging him with trying to drown a four year old girl.

37 year old Brian L. Mahkuk is accused of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Kidnapping from an incident last Sunday, July 13th.

Officers were called to a residence in the 1400 block of NE Quincy Sunday afternoon to investigate a report of a kidnapping.

Mahkuk, according to a witness, had taken a four year old girl into the yard and swimming pool of a private residence and held the child under water.

The witness was able to get the child from Mahkuk and take her to safety.

Police say Mahkuk was arrested at the scene, and has booked into the Shawnee County Jail.
