2 week I-470 project expected to cause major delays

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Kansas Department of Transportation says people should expect major delays starting Wednesday due to a ramp pavement replacement project.

The original start date was Tuesday August 6th but KDOT says due to primary election taking place, the City of Topeka has moved the ramp closure start date to allow voters access to their local area polling facilities.

The eastbound I-470 to Gage Boulevard exit ramp and Gage Blvd. to westbound I-470 entrance ramp will be closed for a City of Topeka pavement replacement project beginning at 7 a.m. August 6th and will reopen to unrestricted traffic on Tuesday August 19th.

KDOT says advance message boards will alert drivers to the ramp closures with no marked detours being provided. The ramps at 29th and Fairlawn Road and Burlingame Road will remain open and drivers can utilize those as alternate routes during the ramp closures.
