Manhattan woman arrested for kidnapping

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – At 1:02 Wednesday morning a Riley County Police officer stopped a vehicle for speeding.  During the traffic stop the occupants informed the officer that their 16 year old female friend had been kidnapped by a Stephanie Sanborn.

Ten minutes an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Stephanie Sanborn, which was also occupied by a 16 year old woman and 17 year old man.  The 16 year old female present in Sanborn’s vehicle was identified as the same female reported as kidnapped minutes earlier.

Following the two traffic stops an investigation ensued into the reported kidnapping of the 16 year old female.  At 9:00 a.m. 30-year-old Stephanie L. Sanborn Manhattan was placed under arrest for kidnapping and aggravated intimidation of a victim.  Sanborn is currently being held at the Riley County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

The 16 year old female was unharmed during the incident and released to her parents.

Police say this incident was not a random act of violence as Sanborn and the victim were known acquaintances.
