More local recycling could mean more jobs

TOPEKA (KSNT) – After opening Topeka’s regional recycling plant a year and a half ago, there’s only been a slight increase in local recyclers.

Currently the plant processes less than twenty percent of it’s capacity. The plant only has enough materials to process four days a week. Whereas, some other regional recycling plants can stay open five or six days a week with longer hours.

If Topeka’s plant had the materials to be open more days or hours, a spokesperson from Waste Management says they’d be able to hire more people.
