Sporting KC’s Soony Saad uses hands in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Sporting Kansas City forward Soony Saad took time to visit with soccer fans in Topeka on Monday.

“We don’t really come out here for appearances so to get in touch with these fans all the way out here in Topeka is great,” Saad said. “It’s great to give back to these fans that support us all the way over here.”

Saad signed autographs and posed for pictures at a Topeka Subway. But that’s not all Soony Saad is capable of doing.

He hopped behind the counter and became a sandwich artist for customers.

“Soccer is a big event around so all of the kids coming in here to meet him is pretty neat,” Topeka Subway Cafe chief operations officer Joe Russell said. “It also lets us spotlight our new store that just opened up a few months ago.”

The 21-year-old is in his 4th season with Sporting KC and would love nothing more than to bring home a repeat championship for the franchise.

“It’s going to take a great support network that we already do have from the fans and that’s why we’re out here today,” Saad said. “Just giving back to them what they bring to us every single game.”

For a guy making a living off what he can do with his feet, he proved that he’s not so bad with his hands either.

“t’s really cool to see Soony Saad come to Topeka,” Sporting KC fan Brady Drane said. “I’m a big Sporting KC fan so it’s great to get to talk to the players on and off the field.”
