Public invited to meet police chief finalists

City of Topeka

The public is invited to attend a public reception to meet the final candidates for Topeka’s Chief of Police, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, August 7th, in the Holiday Conference Room, 620 SE Madison.  The reception will provide an opportunity for the public to interact with and get to know the finalists.

The two finalists are Tony Kirk, Interim Chief of Police for the Topeka Police Department where he’s served since 1987, and James Brown, Assistant Chief of Police of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, where he’s served since 1991.

Police Chief Ron Miller’s last day in office was July 30.  His farewell reception runs from 12 to 3 p.m., August 8th, at Heritage Hall at the Expocentre.  In March, President Barack Obama nominated Miller to serve as U.S. Marshal for Kansas.
