Daycare children and staff run to safety as Kansas City church collapses

(KSHB)  The cause of the partial collapse of a church more than 80-years-old in Kansas City’s historic Northeast neighborhood on Thursday remains under investigation.

44 children and more than a dozen staff members escaped the Apostolic Assembly of the Faith and Christ Jesus building without injury just after 10:30 a.m., Thursday, in what the church’s pastor called a miracle.

They were walked to another church about a block away for safety called the Independence Boulevard Christian Church, which is not affiliated with the church which collapsed.

“We are just having them come down here for shelter in case it rains and so their parents can have somewhere to come and to see if their children are OK,” said Elke Flaharty, a member of the church.
