TOPEKA (KSNT) – The state’s First Lady has a new book to add to her collection.

As part of the Topeka Zoo’s World Elephant Day celebration, Kansas First Lady Mary Brownback received a book of nearly a thousand drawings completed by guests visiting the zoo over the summer.

The book is part of the zoos’ efforts  to support the 96 Elephants Coalition, which draws attention to the fact that on average 96 African elephants are killed every day in Africa, primarily for their ivory.

The coalition encourages people to stop buying ivory to help bring an end to the elephants’ slaughter.
