ACCHS Tigers football preview

EFFINGHAM (KSNT) – Many changes have taken play for the Atchison County Tigers entering the 2014 season.

After finishing 3-6 last year, new head coach, Nick Fuemmeler has installed some new styles and techniques to help turn the tide and win Atchison County some more football games.

It won’t be easy however. The Tigers are the newest team in the highly-competitive Big Seven League. This year, five of their opponents will be unfamiliar foes who they didn’t play last year. The Tigers are excited for the challenge.

“We really feel like this is a league we’ve been in before, and we’ve competed in before,” said Fuemmeler. “I don’t feel like there’s any reason why we’re not going to be able to go in and compete again this year.”

“There’s some big teams in our league, but we’re not scared of anybody,” said senior running back and linebacker Joseph Landwehr. “One of our main covenants is never give up, never back down. “We’re really just going to fight through the season, and we’re going to play our hardest no matter what.”

“With the bigger league, it means tougher teams, bigger kids, better coaches and stuff like that,” said senior lineman Levi Baker. “But I think we’ll do alright. We’ll try our best at it.”

Atchison Country begins its season on September 5 at home against Hiawatha.
