Update on shooting, carjacking in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka Police responded to 2744 SE Gilmore Court at 11:10 Wednesday morning on a report of a shooting.

Police say it was a sale that went wrong. A man and woman were waiting in their car when a man approached them. Instead of handing over the money, he demanded the car and pulled out a gun.

Nicole Deal, who witnessed the shooting, says two shots were fired and that the victim was shot in the calf.

Police located a man with possible life threatening injuries at the scene. Emergency crews transported him to a local hospital for treatment.

The victim was shot during a carjacking involving a dark blue 2000 Ford Explorer. Police located the vehicle a short time later at the 2700 block of SE Highland Court which the suspect was believed to be in.

A Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter and K-9 unit is assisting in the search for the suspect. Police say the suspect is bald, stands 5’10” to 5’11” weigh 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark brown shirt, khaki pants with dark shoes.

Pine Ridge Prep Academy nearby the scene was put on lock down, the lock down was lifted early Wednesday afternoon.
