Sabetha Bluejays football preview

SABETHA (KSNT) – The Sabetha Bluejays have made the playoffs six years in a row, but have only been able to move past the round of 16 once.

Sabetha got off to a slow start in 2013 by losing their first three games, but strung together wins in four of their next five to secure another post-season appearance.

The Bluejays return eight offensive, and seven defensive starters, so experience and leadership shouldn’t be a problem for head coach Garrett Michael.

“We just want to see great effort,” said Michael. “We want to see you get better every day, every play, every drill. We talked about that for the last several years. We don’t want to play to our competition. We want to do what we do and let the chips fall from there.”

“As long as we’re working hard and hustling and you want the next play and everything is coming to you, then we’re pretty happy with the efforts,” said senior tight end and safety Treavor Schmelzle.

“We got a lot of seniors this year, so that helps a lot,” said senior tackle and defensive end Ross Strathman. “A lot of seniors who have been playing together for a long time, so we’re trying to rally the team.”

Sabetha begins its 2014 season with a home game against Nemaha Central on September 5.
