Hiawatha Redhawks football preview

HIAWATHA (KSNT) – The Hiawatha Redhawks have put together back-to-back successful campaigns and made their mark in the Big Seven league.

in 2013, they were undefeated against district opponents, but like 2012, they saw their playoff run come to an end at the hand of the Silver Lake Eagles in the second round.

Their other three losses last year were by a combined eight points. The Redhawks know just how close they were to a perfect regular season, and are ready to begin their 2014 year.

“I think we’re on the right page, said Hiawatha head coach Chris Diller. “We’re getting to where we know what we’re doing. It’s a matter of being physical now. That’s going to be our biggest thing all season is just trying to match other teams physicality. But I think we’re going to know what we’re doing. We’ve got good enthusiasm, we’ve got a lot of young players out here.”

“We stick together no matter what,” said senior running back and safety Brandon Steele. “We have our groups, but when we come out here, we’re all just one big family.”

“We’re going game by game, said senior defensive end and tight end Nicolas Reese. “We’re not going to try to get too excited for one game, because honestly getting too excited can be a bad thing sometimes. So we’re going day by day, week by week for each game.”

Hiawatha begins its season on September 5 at Atchison County.
