EMPORIA (KSNT) – Emporia has a new man to lead the program. Corby Milleson is now the head coach of the Spartans.
“It’s great to be a part of the Spartans,” Milleson said. “It’s wonderful moving from a community that had nine comprehensive high schools to just being the only show.”
Milleson coached in Wichita the last several seasons and becomes the third head coach at Emporia in as many seasons.
“This year, coach always says it’s about the attitude and the effort,” Emporia senior defensive end/fullback Cody Swanson said. “We won’t be hustled, we won’t be outhit, full speed every play and every down. That’s all we can do.”
Emporia missed out on the postseason last year with a (4-5) record.
“Our league has been same as it’s always been.” Emporia senior wide receiver Derek Summey said. “In past years we did pretty decent in our league and I think this year is going to be pretty much the same.”
Sparty has a new identity and are out to prove that they belong near the top of the Centennial League.
“Our philosophy is that we want to play fast, we want to work hard and just let everything else take care of itself,” Milleson said.
