GREAT BEND, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Highway Patrol says an armed suspect was shot and fatally wounded during a confrontation with law enforcement officers.
The confrontation happened Saturday night on NW 190th Rd., while the patrol was assisting the Barton County Sheriff’s Department. The patrol said in a news release that the suspect injured a family member and threatened to harm others before being shot.
The suspect was taken to a hospital and died a short time later. The suspect’s name wasn’t immediately released.
No officers were injured during the encounter.
The patrol says a trooper has been placed on administrative leave as is standard procedure. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation will conduct an investigation.
